Studio Rates

Troubled Clef Studios operates on a project-based rate structure designed to support a wide range of recording and production work — from independent artistic projects to full-scale commercial productions.

Rates are structured according to studio usage, production scope, and the level of support required for each project, ensuring clarity, flexibility, and alignment with creative intent.

All bookings are arranged by consultation to ensure the studio environment is properly matched to each project.
 

Rate Structure

We have different rate tiers for our clients.  This ensures the right fit of price for the needs of the client and helps us support independent music and local Mexican artists.
 

Commercial Production

This tier applies to label releases, commercial recordings, film and television projects, brand-funded productions, and any work with external commercial backing.

Commercial sessions include full access to the studio’s recording, mixing, and production facilities, with scheduling priority to support larger production workflows.  For extended projects, we offer preferred rate structures for bookings of five days or more, reflecting the efficiencies and creative continuity that come from uninterrupted time in a residential recording environment.

We also provide our studio manager's services to support logistical requirements, travel, accommodation and transport needs.
 

Independent Artists & Self-Funded Projects

This tier is designed for independent artists, producers, and self-funded creative work.  It provides access to the same world-class recording environment and technical capabilities, with adjusted rates to support artistic development and long-form creative work.

Many artists are pleasantly surprised by how accessible this level of studio environment can be — particularly when considered in the context of full production budgets, travel, and extended residential recording time.

We believe that meaningful recordings should be shaped by artistic intent, not limited by assumptions about studio cost.
 

Mexican National Artist Rate

Troubled Clef Studios is proud to offer a dedicated reduced-rate program for Mexican nationals.

Eligible clients receive a 50% reduction on standard commercial rates.

Valid Mexican national identification is required at the time of booking.  This program exists to ensure that world-class recording infrastructure remains accessible to artists working within Mexico, supporting local creative development at an international production standard.
 

The Real Cost of Recording in a Production City

When evaluating a recording project, it is important to consider the total production cost — not just the studio rate.  In major recording cities such as London, New York, Nashville, Sydney or Los Angeles, the true cost of production often includes:

• accommodation over extended stays
• immigration & legal costs for every team member, with the risk of VISA issues and denial of entry
• daily transport and living expenses
• studio rental rates in high-cost urban markets
• logistical overhead for larger teams

In many cases, accommodation alone can exceed USD $400 per night for a standard hotel room, and this multiplies quickly for bands and production teams working over one to two weeks. When these factors are combined, large production city studio projects can become significantly more expensive than initially expected.

Troubled Clef Studios is located in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico — a UNESCO-recognized cultural city known for its safety, hospitality, and creative atmosphere.

The region offers a rare combination of:

• ease of international travel via Mexico City or other international airports
• Flexible Mexican immigration, with tourist VISAs issued for up to 180 days
• a welcoming and highly safe environment for visiting artists
• a significantly lower cost of living compared to major recording hubs
• an inspiring, distraction-free setting for focused creative work

Because of this, many artists find that the overall cost of a full recording project — including travel, accommodation, and studio time — is often far more economical than expected.  In practice, once all elements are considered, international production teams are frequently surprised by how efficient and accessible a recording project in Mexico can be.

For Mexican & Latin American Artists

A core principle of Troubled Clef Studios is to support world-class recording opportunities within Mexico itself and supporting the Mexican & Latin American culture.

For many artists, international recording in major global cities has historically required complex logistics, immigration headaches and denials, extended travel, or significant production budgets.  With a fully equipped residential studio located in-country, those barriers are removed — allowing artists to focus resources on the creative process itself rather than relocation.

This enables Mexican artists to work at an international production standard without leaving the country and for Latin Artists to find nearby facilities that rival those found on the other side of the globe.

Booking Considerations

All projects are scheduled based on:

• availability
• project scope
• technical requirements
• creative alignment with the studio environment

We recommend early consultation for larger productions or multi-day residential sessions to ensure optimal planning and availability.

Payments

To support both local and international production teams, Troubled Clef Studios accepts a range of secure payment methods.  These include:

• bank transfer (domestic and international)
• ACH payments (US-based clients)
• major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, and similar providers)
• cash payments (by arrangement for in-person sessions)
• Bitcoin and Lightning Network payments

This flexibility is designed to make international booking and production logistics as seamless as possible, regardless of where your team is based.
